Cattleya Orchid — Inky Purple

This artificial Cattleya orchid comes in Inky Purple. Three blooms sit along the main stem in an asymmetrical triangular arrangement. The lowest bloom is the largest and most open. Two smaller blooms sit higher and turn outward in different directions, so the flower faces can be seen from both the front and side.

Broad petals open around a marked throat. Fine veining runs across the petals, and the rims are finely rippled. The outer segments carry vertical inky purple striations. The lip has a cream base with deep ink spots and a darker centre.

Three upright buds sit at the tip above the open flowers.The foliage is kept minimal, leaving the patterned flower faces, veining and rippled edges easy to see.

Design notes

A graphite ceramic pedestal sets off the inky markings. A clear crystal block leaves the flower faces unobstructed. Smoked bronze glass makes the darker purple tones more noticeable.

For a neutral palette, combine Inky Purple with grey, bone or cool stone. Plum, mulberry and aubergine continue the purple colour range. Chartreuse, emerald and ivory provide a stronger contrast.

Roses add fullness around the orchid. Eucalyptus introduces cooler foliage. Cymbidium adds cupped blooms, while sage places a muted green beside the purple.
