English Rosette-Style Rose — Cornflower Blue

This artificial rose comes in Cornflower Blue, with a white wash across the outer petals. It opens into a broad English rosette. Wider petals form the outside of the bloom, while smaller petals gather more tightly towards the centre. A small bud sits beside the main flower, showing the rose at an earlier stage of opening.

For a single stem, use a narrow neck vase and angle the open bloom outward. Place the bud above or to one side of the rosette. The open flower and closed bud bring a mature bloom and new growth together on the same stem.

When using several stems, vary the height and direction of the open blooms. Allow the outer petals to touch in places, but keep some distance between the centres so the layered rosette forms do not merge into one dense mass. Place the buds towards the upper and outer edges, where their smaller shapes can loosen the rounded outline and carry the arrangement beyond the open flowers.

Design notes

A tall clear glass vase leaves the blue flower heads and side buds unobstructed. Chalk porcelain places Cornflower Blue against a pale matte surface. Smoked graphite glass creates a darker background beneath the stems.

Pair Cornflower Blue with bone, fog grey or pale stone. Periwinkle, lilac and lavender continue the blue and violet range. Marigold, mandarin and terracotta introduce a warmer contrast.

Classic roses can add smaller rounded flowers between the larger rosette blooms. Phalaenopsis orchids introduce flatter open flower faces and a looser line. Gloriosa lilies bring narrower curved petals, while hydrangea can form a broader base beneath the roses.
