Anthurium — Scarlet Red

This artificial anthurium comes in Scarlet Red, with a saturated red flower face and a long central spike measuring approximately 9 cm. The spike has an orange middle with red at the tip and base. Raised veins curve across the broad heart shaped bloom, and the lower edges fold forwards beneath the centre. Light catches the glossy ridges and folds above a slender green stem.

The flower head feels supple and holds an upright shape above the stem. For a single stem, choose a vase with a narrow opening and leave some green stem above the rim. Turn the flower face towards the room so its curled edges and long central spike can be seen together.

When grouping several stems, vary their height and the direction each flower faces. In a mixed arrangement, place the anthuriums above the surrounding flowers so their broad faces do not overlap.

Design notes

Matte charcoal ceramic contrasts with the glossy red flower face. Warm ivory ceramic provides a paler base, while amber glass picks up the orange in the central spike.

Pair Scarlet Red with burgundy and burnt orange. Cream flowers can separate the stronger colours, with olive foliage around the outside.

Group the cupped blooms of Garnet Red roses beneath the anthurium. Let a Merlot Red Phalaenopsis orchid stem trail to one side, with its deeper wine red flowers falling below the upright scarlet bloom. Leave space around the anthurium's long central spike as you position the orchids.
